Showcase #5 - 1st week of Summer Break

We have had an action packed 1st week of summer break.  In the mix of our daily routine and chores we had three birthday parties, two slumber parties, two play dates, a trip to Connecticut to visit friends, a dance recital, a visit to the zoo and a gondola ride in Rhode Island.  Here are a couple of pictures from some of the events.

We have tried several times to get with our friends from GA, who come to our neck of the woods every month for a week.  It finally worked out and oh what fun we had!!  We ate dinner at Bertucci's and then went back to their Double Tree hotel for a swim, coffee, conversation and cookies!!

It was time to move our little guy into a big boy bed.  We found this one on clearance and it arrived on Friday of this week.  To say he loves it is an understatement!

Fiona and I were at Barnes and Noble the night before his bed arrived and she found a firetruck Lego kit and decided her little brother needed that for his new room.  So, she and Jeremy sat at the table and put it together on Thursday night so he could have it first thing Friday morning.

He LOVED it!!  And no, it no longer looks like this!  Thankfully we saved the instructions!

On Saturday, Scarlett had her ballet and tap recital.  She did so well and looked precious!  She's on the right in the picture with her little class.

On Sunday afternoon, we visited the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence, RI.  We have a membership for here this year so we'll be back often I'm sure.

On Tuesday evening, Fiona had her 9th Birthday Party with four of her friends from school.  She decided on a "cat" theme...since cats have 9 lives, and she was turning the big 9.
Here she is with a cookie cake for her dessert.

After dinner we took the group to the movies to see the newly released Madagascar 3.

After the movie we came back home and she opened her birthday presents.

Then the girls decorated pillowcases.  I had already ironed on 9 famous cats (Hello Kitty, Tigger, Garfield, Puss in Boots, Sylvester, Tom, Cat in the Hat, Pink Panther & Alex from Madagascar) to each pillowcase so they colored those in and signed them all.  They turned out really cute!

Thursday night was spent in a gondola on the Providence River in Providence, RI.  Jeremy and I had done a gondola ride on the Charles River in Boston when we visited the city two years ago.  It was the coolest thing ever!  I saw a groupon a couple of months ago for a gondola ride in Providence and they took up to 6 people so I bought it for a family date night.  Fiona was sung "Happy Birthday" to in Italian and Jeremy and I were serenaded with an anniversary song as well.  (Our Golden Anniversary is Sunday, June 17th - 17 years!!!)  The weather was picture perfect, our gondolier was super fun, our accordion player was fantastic and the family loved it!  Such a FUN night!!

And to wrap up the week....on Friday we had a play date with a friend that I haven't seen in probably 5 years or so?  We couldn't remember the last time exactly.  She was here visiting family and called so they came over for lunch and then we went to the West End Creamery here in town.  The kids jumped on big "pillows", had ice cream and rolled down hills.  It was so wonderful to catch up!  Can't wait to see all of you again Amy!
